The Associate Director of Development is responsible for generating and managing a portfolio of supporters and investors to advance the mission of Goodwill Southern California to transform lives through the power of work.  As a key member of the Development Team, the Associate Director of Development will identify and develop relationships with individuals, family foundations, major gift donors, planned giving prospects, and corporate representatives to invite their engagement, support, and charitable gifts in the range of $10,000-$1,500,000. The Associate Director of Development’s first year solicitation goal is $1M with a revenue goal is $500K and will be gradually increased thereafter as the portfolio of donor relationships matures.  The Associate Director also supports revenue-generating Goodwill Southern California events and represents GSC within the community and at external events and meetings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage and significantly grow a portfolio of existing individual, family foundation, major gift, planned giving, and corporate representative donors.
  • Create and execute a strategic development plan to raise funding from any combination individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorship, and planned gifts.
  • Responsible for a minimum of 120 donor visits, substantive conversations, and/or virtual meetings annually. 
  • Responsible for 120 solicitations annually of $10,000 or more. 
  • First year’s solicitation goal is $1M and revenue goal is $500K and will increase annually thereafter.
  • Works closely with Director of Foundations, Chief Development Officer and Senior Director to create a strategic tactical plan.
  • Creates and executes a consistent Annual Giving Campaign.
  • Help plan and execute Goodwill Southern California events to steward, cultivate, and discover GSC prospects
  • Represent GSC at Development events, external events, and community meetings. Effectively express Goodwill mission to positively engage public and outside stakeholders
  • Manage Crescendo campaign outreach and communications which provides Planned Giving articles to donors and prospects of GSC.
  • Log and track donor-related meetings and actions in CRM database (currently Salesforce)
  • Frequent travel around the greater Los Angeles Area.
  • 6-month probationary period to be reviewed by the Chief Development Officer

Education & Experience      

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience as an experienced development professional with strong relationships with individual donors, family foundations and corporate donors
  • Demonstrated ability to secure major gifts of $10,000 or more.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Must be able to write concise reports and possess strong presentation skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and attention to details
  • Strong project management skills including organization and time management to expedite project completion
  • Required to drive extensively (> 50% of the time) in Los Angeles/San Bernardino /Riverside area; Possesses a valid California driver's license and state-required auto insurance.
  • Ability to handle confidential information. 
  • Ability to work without supervision.
  • Non-profit experience preferred.
  • Must have advanced knowledge proficiency of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, and E-mail.
  • Pre-employment testing required: 8 Panel Drug Screen, Background Check, Education and Employment verification, LiveScan, MVR and reference check.

The annual base salary range for this position is $95,000 - $110,000  When extending an offer, the following will be considered, but not limited to: the candidate’s key skills, work experience and education, internal peer equity and other considerations permitted by federal, state and local laws.
